Register or Login to view. For unrelated reasons, I will be in Athens briefly in a couple of days. I intend to stop by the bookshop, and have emailed them again to ask them if they had the book in stock, and if not, could they re-order a copy so that I can pick it up in person.Any chance you'll be able to make it out to Corfu to check the library? RE: Old news, still unresolved - VViews - 28-05-2021 Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have to postpone my trip by two weeks. J.R Moore: no, unfortunately, only Athens! RE: Old news, still unresolved - VViews - 17-06-2021 Athens. I headed to Labyrinthos bookshop's address. The store is real. I showed them the reference for the book, not mentioning my online experience with them. The shopkeeper looked it up and replied: No. You don't have it? No. I wasn't sure what to do. I went back to this thread, and noticed something. Earlier in the thread, Koen had mentioned another shop that sold the book, Protoporia. I had dismissed it as yet another clone of Labyrinthos but it turned out to be a different address, so I headed there. LO AND BEHOLD There it was! I now own a book I can't read about a book I can't read. It is full of illustrations, mostly from the Voynich but also several other sources at the end. More updates coming as I start to translate this later today. RE: Old news, still unresolved - Koen G - 17-06-2021 Ha, team believer wins ![]() Quite the adventure. Maybe those bookshops share an online stock, something like that. And then don't bother sending stuff when it's not in their own store. RE: Old news, still unresolved - -JKP- - 17-06-2021 Oh, streets of Athens! I miss Greece. I was there for a week, in Santorini, as far away from tourists as I could get. Awesome. Loved it. Rented scooters for a day and toured the whole island. Went to the top of the mountain and looked out over the crater. Food was GREAT. Water blue and warm. I have stories about Athens. Went north via Thessaloniki. Was going to visit Turkey, but tragically missed Istanbul due to a very bad cold. Had to hole up in a hotel for a few days instead. Whenever I get nostalgic for Santorini, I watch Daryl Hannah in Summer Love. RE: Old news, still unresolved - LisaFaginDavis - 17-06-2021 What an effort! I look forward to hearing more about this! RE: Old news, still unresolved - RobGea - 17-06-2021 Nice, That picture of you outside Protoporia really made me laugh, good job. RE: Old news, still unresolved - tavie - 17-06-2021 Quite the twist! If we were in a movie, this book would turn out to contain the vital clue for decipherment... |
