RE: [split] Why the VMS text is meaningful or meaningless? - Davidsch - 17-04-2017 Looking forward to it. Although I think I have the workings charted rather well now, I'm a bit oblivious what to do next. But perhaps new ideas will come... RE: [split] Why the VMS text is meaningful or meaningless? - DonaldFisk - 19-04-2017 I've added another page to my blog, on You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.. What I've shown is that although the mean values of word pair frequencies are close to that expected by chance (i.e. there is no discernible word order), their variances are significantly higher than those in my generated manuscript. In other words, the real manuscript's word frequencies are significantly less predictable. To be precise, word frequencies follow a Poisson distribution for my generated manuscript, but a Gamma distribution for the real text. I have speculated on a possible reason at the end of my article, but I'd like the opinion of an expert statistician. RE: [split] Why the VMS text is meaningful or meaningless? - nickpelling - 19-04-2017 For what it's worth, I've long believed that the mechanism that drives daiin daiin repetition is quite different to the mechanism that drives other Voynichese repetitions. As such, I strongly wonder if you're measuring two overlaid (heterokurtotic?) statistics at the same time here. In that case wouldn't the Central Limit Theorem mean the distribution would look more Gaussian? You're presuming you know what the two component distributions look like! The whole Gaussian statistical toolbox collapses if you have multiple overlaid distributions, so reason with care here! :-) RE: [split] Why the VMS text is meaningful or meaningless? - Davidsch - 19-04-2017 So, it's a statistical intrinsic meaningless discussion? ![]() If Gaussian is thrown in, I'm out ! see You are not allowed to view links. RE: [split] Why the VMS text is meaningful or meaningless? - Davidsch - 20-04-2017 Well, if it's going to be a kafkaeske situation, the best thing to do is laugh your pants off. I like music from the period in which the manuscript was made (e.g. by You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.), but it doesn't sound anything like it. |
