RE: No other document written in Voynichese script has been found up to date - Witch Mountain - 03-11-2016 Dear Thomas I agree with the statement RE: No other document written in Voynichese script has been found up to date - ThomasCoon - 11-11-2016 (Poll added) RE: The VMS script has not been found in its entirety in any other document - Helmut Winkler - 11-11-2016
But, you really don't have to look beyond Greek and Latin to find almost all of them. Almost the entire VMS glyph set exists within Latin and Greek letters, abbreviations, and numbers—there really isn't much missing. The main reason people don't recognize the shapes is because they are not familiar with 13th-to15th-century Latin and Greek and are not familiar with the abbreviations. Even the one-loop gallows shape is found in Latin and the line-across-the-gallows shape is found in Greek (I haven't mentioned this before because I was going to blog about it). Only a couple of the rare dotted letters are not found in Latin or Greek, but you can find one of those rare dotted glyphs in old Hebrew texts as an abbreviation.
JKP, I had not read this thread before and you are right of course. including your remarks about gallows farther below. Whatever some people who have never done a sizable amount of Latin paleography before may say, the "Voynich script" is an early 15th. c. script, very likely Italian and is readable. The question is: what does the text mean. I have done some transribing myself, but are not finished with a great part of the ms. and I am not convinced of some of my readings (that is why I do not publish anything), but I am more and more convined of what I have been thinking for some time. RE: No other document written in Voynichese script has been found up to date - MarcoP - 15-11-2016 I voted "yes". I know it's pedantic, but maybe we could specify that we are not considering modern documents. Something like: No other pre-1912 document written in Voynichese script has been found up to date RE: No other document written in Voynichese script has been found up to date - ThomasCoon - 03-12-2016 Today is 3 weeks since the creation of the poll. The thread is closed. The statement has passed on 6-to-0 (100%) approval. |
