The stylistic sleuthing is very valuable, yes.  However, we cannot conclude that the Scribe was in Northern Cuccagna when he penned the VMS, from the deduction that  he was from Northern Cuccagna based on the decorative elements that he provided.

Much less from the guess that he may have copied some elements of his drawings from an alchemist herbal or travel book that was produced Northern Cuccagna.

The Scribe's drawing of the six towers at the center of the Rosette was not necessarily based on towers that he saw in person.  He may have drawn them based on drawings of Jerusalem or Prester John's palace or Timbuktu that he saw on some book.  A book that may have been provided by the Author specifically as a model for that map.  Or they may have been the Scribe's best effort at reproducing the sketches from the Author's draft.

Quote:For anything written before 2010, regardless of who wrote it, I don't give a penny for their answer unless they confirmed it again after 2010.

Fair enough.  For my part, I don't care much for the theories of anyone who still starts from the assumptions that the Author wrote directly to vellum, that the underlying language is European, that the plants are real plants, that all the ink is original, that the color paints are original, that the nymphs etc are more than decoration ...

All the best, --stolfi

There is another general rule.

You don't show photos from home when you've just been to Egypt.
