I can investigate their date if important.(There is a book about the architecture). I expect they would have been constructed between about 1428 and 1469 when Abbot Barbavara was Abbot.

I am not suggesting, as should be clear, that the swallow tail merlons in the Voynich are those at San Nazarro Sesia, but rather those at Castello di Porta di Giovia in Milan and Castelgrande at Bellinzona.

I Googled: Castello Ghibelline
Then looked under "Images"
Then looked through the list to see if there were examples not on our list.
(I started by searching for: Abbazia Ghibelline
But Abbeys with Swallow tail merlons seem very rare. Saints Nazzaro and Celso Abbey seems to be somewhat of an exception.)
