I've often wondered if some of the pages were calendrical pages (or something similar, like moon tables) minus the rigid vertical columns. As a bystander in this sort of discussion, I'm constantly puzzled about why the statistics and observations treat only straight prose and standard forms of poetry. And I'm serious in asking what sort of stats would result if material of that sort (minus columns) was tested. Iv'e noticed a number of links between the Vms' imagery and fourteenth century cartes marine - and works derived from them.
