This guy was already on The List, but I've merged the threads.

In my opinion, the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. looks better than this, because, while also word salad, at least it is made up of real Latin words.

If you are wondering whether his book is worth the high-price, let me quell your curiosity -- this kind of entertainment is priceless!
His analytic skills are ... well ... extraordinary.
His clarity of prose....inimitable.

My favorite chapter is the one where he explains how the Voynich code relates to quantum mechanics, wave function collapse, and crystal growth.

Here's a quote that will give tell you everything you need to know about him and his book:

Quote:[The suggested process] of decoding also appears analogous to this quantum scenario of wave function collapse. From the uncertain cloud of possible contexts spanned by the ciphertext, analogously represented by a wave function in quantum mechanics, a well-defined context emerges non-locally (holistically) through the decryption process, in terms of the uncertainty collapse of the context space.

This analogy suggests an inherently non-local connection and a highly non-linear interaction between the local and non-local cryptographic and linguistic features in the Voynich cipher: as the Voynich glyphs have multiple renderings, at the beginning of the decoding process, the actual renderings of the glyphs are floating (not specified yet), corresponding to local ambiguities, and the overall context is floating as well, representing non-local uncertainties. Then, through the self-interacting process of trial and error, at both levels, that is, in terms of the local glyph renderings and the non-local context nucleation, suddenly certainty sets in; at the local level, the Voynich glyphs attain their actual, sentence-specific renderings and at the non-local level, the synchronous, parallel collapse of the context space sets in as well, resulting in a well-defined context and offering a rationally comprehensible context of the investigated sentence. This way, the unknown elementary constituents (glyphs) define the whole (context, semantic content) and the whole determines the elementary constituents in an [sic] mutually intertwined way. Based on all these perplexing cryptologic and linguistic features, it appears that the Voynich code constitutes a non-local, context-dependent cipher that exhibits intriguing, quantum-like features. Isn't it magical?

Magical indeed!  The really amazing thing is, I remember a guy describing the very same ideas to me at a frat-house party in the 80's.

This can't be serious, right?

Let's just say my wave function collapsed long before finishing the first sentence.

The universe and the unfounded hubris of humankind are infinite, although I am not so sure about the former...

Oh my  Sad And I was starting to like his theory.

Of course it can be just florid language, but something tells me he really sees some connection between VM and quantum physics. And he seemed quite rational, having a lot of citations, statistical diagrams and recommendation by Gordon Rugg.

It would be really okayish if he just said it's glossolalia. I can imagine one man freestyling and writing such words on a wax tablet and then fluently writing them down in an invented script. It makes sense if the goal was to dupe emperor Rudolf and make him pay a big cash for the manuscript.

It could even be that in the sea of gibberish there are actually a few meaninful sentences like Mark Knowles says.

But now it seems that he claims that there is much more to it. And here he goes wacko.

And he uses a lot of smoke and mirrors (like many Voynich solutions) but at the end of the day it looks that his readings are quite subjective, his system is ambiguous and allows the same glyphs to be read in many ways. Have a look (it is a sample page so I guess I may quote it):

Putting the erotic fantasies aside  Big Grin there is also an interesting thing called "maximum context envelope concept". I suppose it is a clever way of saying
"I read the text the way it suits me".

So sorry, I won't be spending 54.95 EUR.

Takes a Dutchie to work a Chinese double dildo into a Voynich solution...

It's the Chinese bit that worries me...

I'm just a little disappointed I did not work the British Museum's extensive collection of "cucumber models" from ancient Egypt into a Voynich theory myself
