RE: Thread for random remarks and questions about Voynich images - Koen G - 25-01-2026 All artists rely on sources. Drawing from other drawings is easier than drawing from life, especially for the inexperienced artist. A book like the VM very likely depends on more than one source of images. And properties of the source image carry over, even if the artist may attempt to streamline things. When Cary and I were looking into differences between A and B plants, we weren't able to determine with certainty whether there was a shift in source materials or in the artists involved. How could we ever tell the difference? RE: Thread for random remarks and questions about Voynich images - Rafal - 25-01-2026 Quote:How could we ever tell the difference? Well, there are art historians and "connoisseurs" who claim that they can tell you for example if some painting is Rembrandt or not. They will even make subtle distinctions as describing some painting as: [*]- by Rembrandt [*]- workshop of Rembrand [*]- circle of Rembrandt [*]- follower of Rembrandt [*]- school of Rembrandt [*]etc. They pay attention to very small details and generally claims you need to have many years of experience to be one of them. The problem is that at some moment it is still subjective and unsure. They make mistakes. They often disagree with each other. In case of famous painters studies it is often a matter of the expert's fame and reputation and not his argumentation that makes us to believe him. And we don't have such thing in Voynich studies. Who is the true and only "connoisseur" of Voynich art whose opinion will end the discussion?
