RE: 116v - JoJo_Jost - 05-08-2026

@ age No, that's not true; the “s” shaped like an 8 also appeared within words, i know the "rules", but rules are not rules like today... Wink

RE: 116v - Koen G - 05-08-2026

Got some examples?

RE: 116v - JoJo_Jost - 05-08-2026

@ Age

But I have something really nice for you here (and for me, too). Wink

The word “chreucz” for “cross” (cruzifix) at the very bottom—there, the “c” and the ‘z’ have merged to form a “g.”

And at the top, there’s even “chreuczes” with two merged glyphen — once as “cz” and once as “ez” ?? or "sz" ??  (the letter "e" I assume based on the possible genitive case).

In short, here we have written proof (!) that the “g” in “gas” can be a “cz” (or  an “ez” too.)

@ Koen

I'll find that, too.

But he wrote the “d” differently, as you can see in aladabas.

It's far from a normal writing of 'd' or 's' but why not.

Has anyone suggested "balden" yet?

There has long been talk of "palden" meaning "soon" or something the like, but I don't recall if this was based on any attestations or just dictionary magic.

Jojo: looking forward to it.

The question is: when and where did he learn to write like that?
The 8 written as a ‘d’ isn’t far off. It’s just a bit harder to understand because of the shift in sound.
And yes, ‘palden’ has already been discussed.
In Alemannic, it’s two words: ‘pald-en’ – ‘bald ein / bald ihn’.  ‘bald’ (soon) and ‘ihn’ (him).  en / one

RE: 116v - JoJo_Jost - 05-08-2026

We have “portas” and “multos” in “aldabas,” all with an 8—we have the “d” in “aldabas,” but he spells it differently. So ‘pal8en’ can't be a “d,” or at least it's unlikely.
Since “portas” and “multos” make sense with an “s” at the end, the likelihood increases that ‘pal8en’ also ends in an “s”...

It can.
If your ‘p’ is a ‘v’.
So it’s pronounced ‘vals-en’ – ‘falls ein’ (if one) or ‘(im) fall den’ (in the event that) – burn.

Es kann.
Wenn dein "p" en "v" ist.
So heisst es " vals-en" "falls ein" falls ein oder "(im) fall den" verbrenn.

The final ‘s’ looks more like a capital ‘B’ than an ‘8’.
How much did you adjust the settings to turn a ‘v’ into a ‘p’?
I’m asking because I can’t see it in the other scans.
Am I even allowed to adjust anything after the scan?
I’m not really familiar with this.

oshfdk here on the forum did that by layering all the Scans on top of each other, if i understand it correctly
