There probably are at least 290 small bumps in the 8th layer from the top of the roundel in the lunar folio (shown as red spots).

In my opinion, there is one less of your little nodules, which you marked with red dots and this is due to the insufficiently precise assignment of the little nodules in the second layer. As I illustrate below, there is at least one less of these nodules. For this reason, there are 189 of these nodules and not 190 - which means that in no way can it be associated with the Menton cycle.

There is still a possible possibility that there are more of these dots in another place - but I did not feel like checking it. Maybe once again, this time more precisely, count the nodules from the second layer from the top of the round circle... because your assumptions are not confirmed by facts.

Thanks, Gregor. You are right and bump #6 in your illustration seems to be a part of the 'fence' of layer #7.
Meanwhile, I found one more small bump (see the attached image), so we are back to 290 bumps in layer #8... for now.
I updated the image in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. accordingly.

Perhaps becoming overjoyed after finding someone is wrong on the Internet when counting small bumps, you quoted You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. (190 bumps) but apparently your illustration is concerned with You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. (290 bumps).

Here I can fully agree with you for a second time that concerning layer #8 "in no way can it be associated with the Menton cycle." The Menton cycle is along the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. and has nothing to do with the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.. By the way, there is no mention in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. about the You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. either.

I no longer know where it belongs. It was a long time ago.

That's the ‘V’ with cloud where you were looking.

This is not the same with the Beneventan flying sideways 'm' resembling the Arabic numeral '3'.

In the illustration you provided, the flying 's'-like symbol above 'V' is an abbreviation for 'Versus' but not 'Um', see an example below from "The elements of
abbreviation in medieval Latin paleography" by Adriano Cappelli.

Could this method of using macrons to designate different syllables (and therefore, different words) apply to the examples in the VMs?

It could be applicable to a limited extent over the bench symbol indeed.
My current line of investigation is that actually many distinct symbols are syllables.
This is possibly combined with an extensive use of specialized mnemonics resulting in short vords.

An exact count cannot be obtained due to ink spill in some parts of said layer and a partial fusion of bumps with the depiction of the person on the left.

After including the questionable cases, there are at least 310 and probably no more than 320 visible small bumps in the 4th layer from the top of the roundel in the lunar folio (shown as red spots).

Also, the total number of bumps in the 3rd layer from the top of the roundel (second fence, shown as blue spots) is exactly 55 = 5 × 11 bumps.
