On this particular issue (LFD's 5 Hands) I was (am) surprised to see it was so promptly accepted by many who have surely sifted through hundreds of manuscripts over the years, and especially on the basis of "Well I'll just trust the expert on this one".
I believe one reason why LFD’s theory was accepted so quickly and adopted as the basis for further research is the fact that, after years of little progress, it offers a groundbreaking insight. I can well understand why the Voynich community has embraced it with such gratitude. Constructive criticism is difficult here anyway, since one certainly cannot discuss the matter “on equal footing” with a professional paleographer. However, much of LFD’s analysis is data-driven. If, for example, a computational linguist were to raise well-founded objections here, they should definitely be taken seriously.
