I would risk saying that if Voynich Manuscript is a medieval gibberish hoax, then it is probably the best of medieval gibberish hoaxes.

It could be also the best (in term of mimicking real object) but at the same quite inefficient - the cost of production was too high compared to the income. So people didn't do similar things in history.

Other similar hoaxes, if ever existed, were probably recognized. And medieval people didn't collect wrongful books for future generations. They just burnt them.

Also remember that on the other hand we know about very original, creative and quite unique hoaxes. The lack of similar cases doesn't mean that they didn't happen.

The author used low‑quality ink and low‑quality parchment. It can be assumed that he had access to the necessary resources, and at the same time he didn’t spend much.

I suppose a picture like this could be an inspiration for Rosettes:

But the 9 rosette structure is not there, and this seems more like a building plan, whereas there are buildings in the rosettes, they are tiny in comparison, so it seems to be showing something bigger. 

Also the layouts you show above give access to many points, whereas access seems somewhat restricted in the vms, some things only point at others.

Although I can see an alternative structure where the outer parts are reincorporated into the lower terrain section, leaving only the center as elevated, or even on the same plane as everything else. 

It also reminds me of tic tac toe, you can see it as separate items, or as interconnected possibilities

The board would break up the rosettes into separate pieces


But the incidence structure of tic tac toe looks like this, 

when we group all possibilities of three in a row, like 3 Men's Morris.


Or maybe it is 3d chess? With the possibility of different elevations. Maybe 3d tic tac toe.

But maybe it is just a square and a cross, or a cross plus corners.

@Linda, yes, I’ve also thought about this duality...
Given the connection between Rosette and astrology that is being considered here, it can be seen that it is precisely the Rosettes from the first group that lend themselves to comparison.

One more game metaphor, which led me to something else.



I realized that half the time we look at the Rosettes diagonally. 

Where else do you see the patterns of both diagonal and upright patterns of five?


Currently it is in state x. Note though, that the writing at the bottom of the image suggests you look at it on the diagonal from this view, (which is same as looking at it with TO Map on top), and i will call this pattern t. If you look at it from the perspective of the lettering at the top of the image, it would also be a t. And really, in terms of whether they hold liquid, the center of gravity does favour that view, although i can see it as empty or moist tubes on the x view. What is your perspective on this item in terms of astrology, or otherwise?

@ ololololo it actually looks good and I can still see it somewhat as I saw it, with some differing explanations, which seems like a bad sign though, re the ambiguity of it all.

The most accurate match can be found only in one Rosette. The rest are mere similarities.
