The recipe in that clip seems to call for dissolving mercury in acid (aqua fortis -- probably nitric acid) made from some kind of vitriol, then drinking some potion made from it.
That explains why most of the Medieval alchemical knowledge has been lost. Alchemy was a self-erasing virus...
