The Voynich Ninja

Dear all,

Last year, it was decided to celebrate Voynich Manuscript Day (VMD) on 4 August, which is 04-08 in the international date format, a reference to Beinecke MS 408. Today is "reverse" VMD, so what better moment to announce this year's edition?

I got together with a couple of volunteers to come up with a plan for the day:

Date: Sunday 3 August
Time: 12:00-17:00 CEST
Place: I will host a Zoom meeting.

The types of activities will be similar to last year, but we also want to try something new. Here is what we have in mind:

1. Four or five presentations of the kind we had last year: slightly more serious research, but it doesn't have to be "conference level". If you want to do a presentation about your Voynich research, simply send me a proposal and we will agree on a time slot that works for you. The deadline for proposals is June 1st. If there are too many submissions, the jury (which does not include me) will make a selection. If you are selected for a presentation, you may either send me a pre-recorded video or do a live presentation. 
   
2. As a new experiment this year, we want to open a number of 10-minute slots that can be reserved at a first come, first served basis. Want to tell everyone about your theory? Reserve a slot and it's yours. Want ten minutes to talk about your favorite nymph? Teach us about a useful research tool? Suggest research topics? Just reserve a slot. Anything goes, as long as it's Voynich-related and within the realm of decency. I will make a thread about these next week.
   
3. Anything else. Last year, we had Lissu's Voynich-inspired music, Cary's Voynich art, Rene's method for turning Voynichese into song... I hope we will get to see some more of this in 2025, artistic or otherwise.
   

This is meant as a general frame to work with. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, don't hesitate to discuss them in this thread.

Additional note: this event is not Voynich ninja exclusive. Anyone can join and it may be promoted elsewhere. If you know someone who's not on the forum but does Voynich embroidery, do let them know - we'd love to see it. The same goes, of course, for non-members who would like to do a presentation.

I can contribute with my model. Just set up a time slot. Perhaps anybody would like a secret mission into the show? Like give my modell a mystery task and see what happens with uncovering something on the fly? Maybe like a creative group thing?

This year at VMD, we will match up all large-plant drawings from the MS and determine the forum's favorite Voynich plant!

The structure will be as follows:
Stage 1: plants are matched in groups of 8 or 9. A poll determines the winner in each group.
Stage 2: the group winners are matched in 4 groups of 4. A poll determines the winner of each group.
Stage 3: The four winners of stage 2 battle it out in a final poll of the champions. This poll will be off-site, so the results remain hidden until VMD on 3 August, when I will reveal the winner.

Since this is just for fun and not serious at all, campaigning for your favorite plant in a bracket is allowed, even encouraged!
