My manuscript viewer takes text from GC2a-n.txt. If things are wrong in that file then it will just have to be so. That is okay for me. Occasional errors in the file won't significantly affect my understanding of the Manuscript and I don't want to undertake the task of searching for and correcting errors.

This is a valid approach. From my experience, there are clearly errors in all transliterations, but they represent a small percentage. 
Such errors are not in any way the reason why 'the solution' has not been found.

It is still possible to check the impact of using one or the other transliteration, by making your viewer use the files in the STA alphabet (i.e. without the -n extension) and apply the 'STA to v101' bitrans table. If you are not sure what that means, just let me know...

I have never used bitrans. I wrote my own code for reading IVTFF files, and I have occasionally used it on ZL3a-n.txt. I will amend my viewer to have the option of using text from ZL3a-n.txt but I really don't expect to see a great difference. In my opinion also the Eva Hand 1 TTF font doesn't look as nice as the Voynich ( v1.01 ) TTF font.

Excellent. A drawing inserted between text (ref vertical yellow bars) appears to be treated as a null. Would a space work better?

Ok, you managed to do that pretty quickly!

My point was not to promote my transliteration, or Eva, but instead to show you how you can use the other transliterations with the v101 font. 

You are using the file: GC2a-n.txt
This starts (apart from header and comments) with:


If you look at file: GC2a_0.txt  (go here: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. )
you will see that it starts as follows:


This is the STA alphabet.
If you apply bitrans to it, with the table: STA-v101_def.bit
you will get the original text in v101 again.

Now you can also follow this procedure with the ZL file (ZL3a.txt), or the RF file (RF1a.txt) and obtain these transliterations expressed in the v101 alphabet.

You are right that the differences are not great.

If you do it with the VT file (VT0e.txt) you get the same transliteration as on voynichese.com. This is relatively incomplete, but at least it is a known reference that can be used for comparison.

Thanks. Yes, you are right. I will change my programs. I should have read the IVTFF document better. The yellows are places where text is interrupted. This is one reason why working with GC2a-n.txt is better. GC's transliteration just has the manuscript text and is not obstructed with inline comments.

Thanks for the advice. But really I cannot commit myself to doing anything with STA. My original objective was just to be able to visualise the text of the manuscript without having to go to You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. or You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.

But if anyone else might be interested in doing STA to v101 translations then it would help to know where to get STA-v101_def.bit. I couldn't find it.

I guess I meant to describe all of the labels in a voynich visual dictionary
