The stars are good because they are not asterisk stars. The hats... not so much. The problem is that the VMs perspective shows only the underside of a large brim. No telling what's on top. (It might be pepperoni.) It's even that extra bit more ambiguous than the rest of the hats in this illustration.
The ambiguity is intentional. You can't say that it's not a galero.

Why shouldn't the stars in the VMS be viewed with the same seriousness as in a dispute between two astrologers ?
