Also remember that word endings like -us, -orum, -arum and so on may be coded with a single sign.
Actually scribes writing in Latin did the exact thing:

For example this is bonorum

Then again, was public education a "thing" back then? I would think that writing in Latin or any other language would be sufficient to keep the illiterate at bay. Then again, you do not put in nekked ladies in a book that is accessible to others. Its like saying, " Come look, but I bet you can't figure what it is about," It worked for them and us.
One hypothesis I saw was that it was a women's health manual, obfuscated because writing about such a thing was taboo at the time.

I don't subscribe to that hypothesis, although it might be what they wanted people to think, since it does end up looking like a whole lot of naked bathing ladies. And perhaps it would explain to others who might chance upon seeing them with it as to why they would quickly hide it away if that occurred, rather than think espionage or deeper hidden knowledge was at the fore. Better to have them think they were hiding porn, than to have them suspect they were hiding secret information. I think the ladies (I like to call them nymphs, because I think they represent features of waterbodies and river deltas) hold far more information in their poses than registers to the casual observer.

I do remember the trend of people talking about the book in ancient letters failing to mention the naked ladies.

I do remember the trend of people talking about the book in ancient letters failing to mention the naked ladies.

That is another puzzle, do they not identify that aspect of the work because of the taboo, or were they not talking about this book? If the former, seems smart if you wanted to keep it secret to have people leave out the part that would identify it due to a reticence to discuss it. If the latter, just another bunch of red herrings in the mix to confound everyone.

However I found it very strange that Kirchner drew the very things that I saw in it, like underground water, and volcanoes. Is it possible he saw them in it too, but never wrote about it specifically? Did it come out of his subconscious?

For instance, stuff like this

Reminds me of this

Which I see as hot springs heated by volcanic activity which cause gulfs to form in the land through erosion. Specifically, the gulfs of Lesbos.

Then compare with this, it is all about the hydrologic occurrences of the world, just like f80r, outlining a Sulphur spring at Lake Garda

And I say that You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. is lakes Bolsena and Bracianno, outlining their volcanic origin, and what does he draw, the next one in the line, Albano.

But these aren't things that the general public talks about. So you invent your own language, like Da Vinci writing backwards in his notebooks.

I agree with Linda. If you really want to hide that it was a "women's health manual" it is not a good idea to draw naked women all around.
