It's a good thing that the "Voynich author" is an entirely imaginary construct, created to excuse our inability to interpret the text, and immense difficulty with the imagery.
Otherwise, the insults offered this chap - were he not a figment of the imagination - would be enough to bring him roaring from hell, heaven or the grave.
Just offhand, I have seen the poor Punch described as mentally unbalanced, a child genius, an inept artist, a madly brilliant but sex-obsessed herbalist, and now as a joke of a man who created a cipher he couldn't decode.
I see many persons with 'glasses darkly' and I would suggest some swap them for a glass of something equally dark, but more nourishing. Cheers.
