We may have come to a point where a hint is required? You can use spoiler tags:

Code:
[spoiler] ... [/spoiler]
I used spoiler tags just to hide a long text. I think there is already no need to hide a thought about deciphering.
I mean byatan may provide a hint and use spoiler tags to hide it in case someone still wants to solve it without hints. You're fine  Smile
What is fascinating is that despite the cipher being relatively simple and the context behind it existing on this very forum (here's your hint), the few individuals here who have made serious and intelligent and creative attempts to solve it have gone in unusual and interesting directions I did not expect. This is in some way a microcosm of the attempts on the vms itself.

And there is. Smile

It's a thread, and it involves rationality, skepticism, critical thinking and encipherment. That should SERIOUSLY pare it down, no sarcasm. Really though I'd like to see more people try to solve this. We haven't had many serious attempts but the ones that were are really interesting.

1) Somehow divide the plaintext in groups of three characters
2) Use three conversion tables, one for each position

It's possible to do this unambiguously in several ways.  I'm not sure if it is possible with 26 characters or less for all 3 positions. Maybe ' ',  '.' and ',' are included in the character set of the plaintext?
Heh I already forgot we never got a solution for this.
Hi Koen,

I'm afraid your division in 3 columns doesn't work. It's ambiguous and some combinations are missing: Kiiag, TIayun, tauYnh...
