Philosophy:
Individual: OK, he had bad Latin.
Group: Was he the best in Latin? Or why was he of all people allowed to write? Or did they all have the same Latin?
Where would one learn this Latin? University?

I love philosophy, there is no right or wrong.
These are some quick examples that I grabbed from my palaeography files. They are not necessarily the best matches for specific letters, but these scripts are the same overall style. They're not included in this example, but I also sampled the abbreviations and ligatures used by each scribe.

Years ago, I developed a mathematical scale to compare them, one that can be taught to another person so that subjectivity is reduced and two people are more apt to come up with the same numeric results for each character.

I am writing it up but it takes time. I went through more than 10,000 manuscripts, and sampled more than 2,000 to get a handful of examples that are demonstrably close to the script style on You are not allowed to view links. I've been working on this long before I began blogging in 2013. I followed the same process for the column text on f1r, the folio numbers, and the quire numbers, some of which has been documented on my blog, but I have quite a bit more information since then.
Anton, could we move the posts from #18 downward to the Analysis of Text section under a new heading of Palaeography of 116v ?
@JKP
I am always impressed by your work.
I live in the centre of languages, whether Gnaggi, Haxen or Eisbein, it's the same.
In Italy they write Ciao, we write Tschau.
Now I have to ask Marco if it's the same.
In Hamburg they say Tschüss. There's also a song
I don't know, but I think I've been to Holland before, but sometimes WHO is now retired.
Habe ich gefunden, war mal da.
Rene muss es wissen.

Smelly factory not far from my university, but not sure what is the connection.
Thread split. Please try to stay on topic in the news subforum. That's especially looking at you, Mr Tentakulus. Even the off-topic drifts to a different off-topic so often that it becomes hard to split threads properly.
With reference to 116v

I would not have thought we would have to start the pox leber discussion again, but there are again and again newbies, who neither know much of palaeoraphy nor of the languages involved.

For all the beginners: When you have a Medieval text which is difficult to read, you build up an alphabet and start guessing, you must have mastered th language of course. After some time you get the sense, even if a letter is smudged or a whole passage is diffiult read. That is basic in Medieval Studies, you don't have to believe me, just go and ask people teaching the subject in a reognized institution

In fact, it's rather appropriate for Marginalia, whereto I now move it.
@Koen.
You are certainly right. But if I always split everything up and move it around, then the whole discussion no longer makes sense.
When talking about text 116, is it now simply language, or simply because it is page 116 ?
If I look at it as dialect, should I now place my answer on origin.
It is imperative that one does not tear it apart.
You can place the sentences in the right place a second time, but then they won't make sense any more.
