Who can give a link to the original handwritten record Dee, in which he describes the fire.
I suspect that confusion could have occurred when deciphering a handwritten record. Confused “Quire” and “in-quarto“. This can lead to interesting conclusions.
“In-quarto” (40) is the size of 96x61 cm. Is there any mention of the dimensions of the book “BOOK OF DUNSTAN”? How could such large sheets be in the book “BOOK OF DUNSTAN“, and how large should Kelly's desktop be to fit all the things listed in Dee's record? After all, events took place in the bedroom, where banquet tables for feasts are not set.
The importance of the original Dee record is as follows.
If, when printing notes, they translated “in 40” instead of “in 4Q” (which is very similar to each other), then it turns out that 4 Quire lay on the table (not connected!).
In VMS, according to the Quire marking, 3 “notebooks” are missing (12, 16, 18).
You tell me, that the quantity does not match!! .. However, take a look at Q20. It has sheets 111 and 114 with obvious signs of deformation. Most believe that this is a defect in the manufacture of leather. However, this may be a deformation as a result of exposure to fire. Moreover, there are folds (wrinkles) on these pages, which were obviously formed after the text was written. This could occur as a result of extinguishing the fire with water.
That is, these two bifolios (as well as 111 bifolio, with a slight deformation in the middle of the sheet) were in a fire. The rest of the sheets were restored (?), and the whole notebook is hemmed into a manuscript.
