Maybe that's what needs to be done with them.

I know with some of the orchids (and numerous bromeliads), the original base plant is only happy for a few years, but if you bend the stems and give them some mulch to form new "roots" (or aerial stems), they will form a new plant. Perhaps that is what a Kalanchoe wants to do.
Since JKP mentioned Kalanchoe in the other thread, I was reminded of the fact that this plant is still alive. I had to put it on the ground because it was too tall to be on the table. Now even from the ground it is almost at the ceiling :|
