For what iit is worth: Modern historians seem not to be convinced that Ferdinand III had a wide knowledge of the Czech language, cp. the German wikipedia and its sources
I've always wondered if the Raphael comment was simply an attempt by a previous owner to give some authority to the book.
After all, it seems strange to mention that the book was valuable to an emperor without mentioning how you legally came to possess it. If someone told me that they were going to give me a book that, for example, Franco paid a lot of money for, my first question would be: how the devil did you get hold of it?
By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but Rudolph I was never holy Roman emperor, simply a King. The numbering is that of their kingship, not the emperor numbering.
I should add that I am a bit skeptical about the accuracy of some sources, in particular Pelzel.
He was writing 100-150 years after the fact. (I was also so advised by Czech historians).

Balbin is likely to be more accurate, and some of his work only exists in MS form.
I have no knowledge of the contents of the latter, but assume that the likes of Josef Smolka, Vladimir Karpenko and Ivo Purs would.
Impressive effort, thank you @ReneZ for sharing!

> Some graphical representation of timelines would really help here.

I guess what Koen means is using the data to create a display resembling something like this:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.

Simply, for being able to represent overlapping timespans, only..

Running out of time, but it says "Wiki Style Editing". Maybe it can be incorporated.. (2morrow).

There certainly are better options, too. If you notice there are also a lot of locations connected to the dates in the list (e.g. "1618: Marci completes his studies in Olomouc"), so it could be coupled with a map, on top.

I haven't found a perfect solution yet, You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. seems interesting, and of course there is google timeline that can load spreadsheets from google docs.

For the sleepless:

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
I guess that (without waiving any other implementations) we should place Rene's timeline into our (a bit neglected) Wiki, so that the chronicle could be further developed by the community.
Maybe the WIKI is neglected because the implementation feels a bit old.. where is all the WIKIness?

Besides, what I wrote above:

The Messachusetts Institute of Technology SIMILE Widgets work with WIKI-style formatted data. Build a WIKI, have a display. That's not counterintuitive, or? Smile

The constitutional History of the medieval empire is a bit complicated, he is not simply a king but rex Romanorum, see e.g. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view., the German article is better
Yes Helmut, but as I understand it this was a fudge. He was never anointed as emperor by the Pope.
