I'm intrigued by the middle circle. What do those things represent? Hills? Towers? Reminds me of the central rosette.

Hi Koen,
those are the six gates of Jerusalem. They are sometimes represented in a hexagonal wall with six towers. I agree that this detail is particularly interesting in connection with the central rosette!
