Interesting video, David. I've seen a number of other videos from their channel before.
This video does show well that conventions often have their origin somewhere else, and that the history of an image can, in a way, go back thousands of years. This is something I always try to keep in mind, since the VM is atypical in some ways and "foreign" in others.
Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker are making observations and descriptions of what they see, from the perspective of that time.
But, what is interesting that these images were brought in the media as:
"Do these images prove that early Christianity had FEMALE priests? Vatican unveils frescoes hinting that women held power in the early Church"

But this is not really subject of discussion. It is just what the media makes of it.
What the media writes, also the BBC 2015:
