Dear Witch Mountain,

I believe the Author was insecure that his cipher might be broken and adding three different forms of writing would make it far more complex applied to the clock.

If you had read more of the biographies  of John Dee, you would know that he hid things not by enciphering them but by tucking them into secret compartments in chests. Yes, he was interested in cryptography, but that was part of a general curiosity about everything. He didn't devote much time to it, he was too busy with other things.

Even the "Enochian" language was not Dee's It was something he thought was coming from angels through his scrier, and he was copying it down, not inventing it.
